The See You Taiwan Special is the third in an ongoing series of photographic portraits of women living in cities taken by James H Bollen executed with a deliberately DIY vibe.
Some of the locations in this issue have been chosen to reflect Taiwan's distinctive character. As well as the pandemic, Bollen's project draws on sci-fi and surrealism as well taking inspiration from works by JG Ballard, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Bacon and Lao Tzu. The cover photo of Orianna Oi and the photo of Chiu Yi on page 121 were exhibited at the 2021 and 2023 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London respectively.
